“…for there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God.” – Romans 13:1
God places people in positions of leadership.
Some leaders are reluctant, like Moses. Some are willing, like David. Some are rebellious and proud like Nebuchadnezzar, who didn’t initially acknowledge that God had given him his place of leadership (Daniel 4:28-37). But, regardless of vocation, leaders are called to the role. So, for what purpose are they called?
David was known as one of the greatest kings in the Old Testament. Here is what he learned:
“And David perceived that the Lord has established him as king over Israel and that he exalted his kingdom for his people Israel’s sake…” – 2 Samuel 5:12
God’s blessings are not just for us. We are to bless all the people in our sphere of influence. How do we do that? Is it by having Bible studies and prayer meetings at work? Is it simply by loving our neighbors as ourselves? Does that ensure people are happy, productive, and blessed? The story of Moses helps answer this question. First, let us define blessing. To bless people is to bring wholeness into their lives. Wholeness has many elements.
- One is purpose so they know they are making the difference in this world that God created them for.
- One is vision so that they have hope for the future.
- The others are contentment and joy in what they are doing.
Blessing includes all of these elements plus more. When people are blessed, they have the life that Jesus spoke of when he said, “I have come that you might have life and have it to the full.”
I am not talking about the “prosperity gospel” here. The life Jesus was speaking of included a right relationship with God and others and sufficient resources in all other areas of life to live out their purpose and calling on their lives.
